Homes for Sale in St. Marys, WV
St Marys is a riverside community occupying the Hi Carpenter Memorial Bridge’s southern side in Wood County, West Virginia. The town sits in the site where the Ohio River adjoins Middle Island Creek with two bridges located within the town, crossing both water bodies. Founded in 1849 by Alexander Creel, the story goes that he had a vision of the Virgin Mary who inspired him to start the town. The city’s name retains this story, which has since been incorporated into the Parkersburg-Marietta-Vienna, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Today the town is split between two areas south and north of Middle Island Creek. These sections are the most developed in the city and are home to most residents living in St Marys. The land area surrounding these neighborhoods are mostly wooded hillsides with some country roads winding along the hills leading to private estate homes and other private properties.
The majority of the community homes were built before the 1960s, with some homes dating back to the 1900s. These residences make up the bulk of properties in the southern part of town and cater to buyers looking at an affordable home option below the $100,000 price point. Mobile homes, ranches, colonials, bungalows, cottages, and other designs during this era are predominant in this section of the city. Newer residential developments in the community are further northeast, which were constructed as expansion plans were enacted in the region. These homes were built in the 1970s to 1990s and feature more modern suburban designs. For those looking for a more private home setting they can opt for properties located to the east and south.

What's To Love
St Marys is an affordable community with an overall cost of living being quite low compared to the national average. Real Estate in the area is exceptionally low, making it an excellent place for those looking for a new starter home. The city is one of the safest places to live, with property and violent crime rates being significantly lower than average.
What's Not To Love
As the city is in an isolated location, residents are a bit of a drive away from most employment centers in the region. The Saint Marys Correctional Center is in the northernmost part of town, which may concern some buyers looking at the area. Many properties in the area are a bit dated with the typical wear and tear you would expect from an older home model.
